Lo has high hopes for PM Anwar
KUCHING: High hopes are directed towards Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to fulfil and restore the rights of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang has pointed out that Sarawak has been working well with the federal government, and currently the situation has been really good.
He said that as a country, the political situation must be stable; the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in Sarawak is working with the federal government to ensure the political situation in Malaysia is stable.
“With the appointment of Anwar under the unity government, things are promising, and we are hopeful of the outcome,” said Lo.
Following Anwar’s recent official visit, the prime minister has increased the annual special grant to Sarawak from RM16 million to RM300 million.
Anwar during his visit also noted that an agreement has been reached that the allocation under Article 112D of the Federal Constitution will be distributed based on the formula proposed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Therefore, Lo praised him and noted that this was a positive move.
“As Sarawakians, we have high hopes that the MA63 will be respected by the government, and what’s important is in the MA63, where the rights must be returned fully to Sarawak.
“This is my hope, and when I look at our prime minister, I have hope and happiness that this time with the Unity Government.
“Together with the prime minister, Sarawak and Sabah can gain back their rights,” he said at the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Chinese New Year open house here this morning (Jan 22).
Lo complimented Anwar, stating that he is a great prime minister who has principles.
He has thus encouraged all Sarawakians to unite and refrain from causing division.
“Unite together with GPS to become more powerful so that our premier can negotiate with our prime minister.
“Because of our strong friendship, we will be able to negotiate to have the MA63 rights returned to Sarawak and Sabah, which is crucial,” he stressed.
