10,000 Java Bard fry released into river
KUCHING: As many as 10,000 Java Bard fry were released into the river at Kampung Sinar Budi Lama in Batu Kawah yesterday.
The release of fry, which was donated by the Department of Agriculture Kuching Division, was held in conjunction with the state-level World Water Day Celebration programme.
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang was present to officiate at the programme and to release the fry into the river.
Earlier in his speech at the village’s Dewan D担alam, he said that Kampung Sinar Budi Lama was very lucky to be chosen as the location for the inaugural state-level World Water Day Celebration programme.
This is because Kampung Sinar Budi Lama is always in the heart of our Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also the Batu Kawah assemblyman,・ he said.
He explained World Water Day was celebrated on March 22 every year and that it was an annual event organised by the United Nations (UN) since 1993.
The celebration aims to raise awareness of water-related issues, among the people,・ he said.
The World Water Day, he said, also aimed to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6 which was to ensure every individual had access to clean water by 2030.
This year’s World Water Day is themed Groundwater: Making the Invisible Visible・
Also present were the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak deputy director Ir Law Wee, and political secretary to the Premier, Tan Kai.
