JCI Padawan seeks more collaborations for Food Aid Project

KUCHING (July 31): The Padawan chapter of Junior Chamber International (JCI) welcomes any collaboration with individuals, businesses or non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in its ongoing Food Aid Project.

According to JCI Padawan president Rachael Justin, this initiative is meant to help alleviate the burden off the families whose livelihood has been adversely affected by the restrictions imposed as means to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Earlier this month, we distributed 50 bags of rice to the affected families in Padawan area, where we received solid support from (Batu Kitang) assemblyman YB Lo Khere Chiang, who is also the chairman of Padawan Municipal Council.

Special thanks also to the sponsors PP William, Louis Muk, Candice, Qubee and Hon for their generous donations.

Our deepest appreciation also to the police personnel from the Padawan District police headquarters (IPD) for helping us distribute the rice to the affected families, she said in a statement.

Most recently, the JCI Padawan team went out to deliver a total of 1,000 packs of Nasi Ayam Penyet to 11 locations comprising villages under active case detection (ACD) and Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO), as well as vaccination centres (PPVs) and quarantine centres.

Apart from delivering food to villagers in need, this programme also marked our appreciation to all the frontliners whether theyre from the health sector, the police and armed forces, Rela, Civil Defence Force or even the volunteers, said Rachael, while expressing special thanks to 3Hs Corner for its generous donation of the food, as well as to Kuching Food Aid and Kuching Runner Community for assisting her team in the delivery.

The Nasi Ayam Penyet packs were delivered to the Halfway House of Prisons Department Sarawak, the quarantine centres at Anjung Kasih and Institusi Aminuddin Baki, Taman BDC, Kampung Tabuan and Kampung Astana (both under ACD), Kampung Tabuan Melayu (under EMCO), as well as the PPVs at Tanah Putih Health Clinic, Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, Stadium Perpaduan Negeri and Kozi Square.

PADAWAN: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) is confident it can bring about greater development to its administrative area with the government’s support as well as community leaders and the people.

Its chairman Lo Khere Chiang said MPP would continue to put emphasis on its Resident Councillorship System (RCS) to enhance the spirit of neighbourliness and caring communities through the adoption of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030.

He said this during an online press conference today (July 29) after the first council meeting following the recent reappointment of councillors.

“The council will continue to think of innovative ways to provide good and clean eateries and restaurants for tourists and investors to go. 

“Similarly, the quality of living will be enhanced with increase in the number of parks and recreational facilities which are able to provide comfortable places within the municipality for people to go and rest.

“The council will also cooperate with the police towards a crime free and safe municipality. 

“It is only with a conducive environment provided would investors feel comfortable and be willing to stay and invest here,” he explained.

Lo explained that all parks and open spaces within MPP areas were regularly maintained for cleanliness and beautification and its Landscape Master Plan implemented in phases to meet the council’s objective to be a green and beautifully landscaped municipality. 

“The council will be duly informed of the cutting down of trees by developers and utility agencies in any development and maintenance works. 

“Private developers are also required to submit landscape development plan for comments and approval of the council to ensure provision of sufficient open spaces and greens in the new development area,” he said.

Besides that, the council urges communities to cultivate new habits and to keep the town and ‘kampungs’clean. 

“The habits of discarding and segregating waste properly are done through various joint recycling programmes conducted together with schools, NGOs, community leadersand Trienekens Sdn Bhd.

“In addition, through cooperation with the Health Department, grading of food outlets programmes and organising of food handlers’ course fpr food operators will continue to be implemented for sustainable health and environment.”

Touching on the impact of Covid-19 on the economy, Lo said that measures have been implemented to prevent the spread of the virus in the economic sectors.

He added the council has been continuously monitoring these practices to ensure businesses comply with standard operating procedures (SOP).

“The council is also playing its part to help in the recovery of the economy. The hawkers and petty traders are provided with places to trade.

“We also work together with private enterprises in managing these trading places as people are starting to frequent these trading places.

Lo urges the public to give feedbacks to help them to solve problems that they are facing in MPP areas as the people are the council’s priority.

“MPP adopts the People’s First Approach and wants to maintain its close relationship with the public to ensure the well-being of the people.

“Regular engagement with the local communities will result in a cordial bonding between the community and the council.

“Hence, the communities will assist the council in working towards a clean and safe municipality,” Lo added.

Kg Bumbok-Bt 7 stretch closed for everyone’s safety

PADAWAN: The roadblock at the main road from Batu Kitang to the traffic light junction towards Batu 7 is set up to prevent Covid-19 infection from spreading to other areas.

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang said police and several other enforcement agencies had closed the road at the Kampung Bumbok area up to the traffic light intersection.

“We have no choice but to close the road for the time being because there are many alternative roads (access points) such as Batu Kitang Lama, Batu Kitang Jaya which are connected to residential areas.

“In the MPP area alone, there are nine localities that have been subjected to the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), including Telaga Air recently,” he said on Thursday (July 29).

Earlier, Michael Kong, the special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, slammed the action, saying it was illogical.

In a statement on July 28, he urged Lo and Batu Kawa assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian to go to the affected area during peak hours to see for themselves the dire situation faced by road users.

Lo shot back, saying: “This is a preventive measure, and it is our responsibility to ensure that everyone is safe from being infected.”

He acknowleged that this had inconvenienced many road users but the measure had to be taken for everyone’s safety.

“Lorry drivers can still use other routes to reach their destinations such as Jalan Stephen Yong and this also includes business premises that can operate such as coffee shops along the road and so on.”

Explaining the EMCO in Kampung Bumbok, Lo said he was unsure how long the period would be but it was usually 14 days and depending on the case report.

“If the cases are increasing in the village, then the restriction will be extended.

“What is of concern is that about 80 per cent of the residents in Kampung Bumbok have been given a second dose of vaccine but there have been seven positive cases so far (as of July 28).

“This is a serious situation that we are facing. I am also very concerned about this.”

Stand proud in celebrating our independence

KUCHING: Sarawakians should stand proud in celebrating the 58^thSarawak Independence Day today.

Batu Kitang assemblymen Lo Khere Chiang reminded everyone to hold their heads high as Sarawak was a unique state with rich resources and multiracial society.

“Sarawak is host to the highest variety of ethnic races, and yet we show the world how close knit we all are.

“We are able to live, work and celebrate our different cultures together and joining in the many different festivals.

“This year is the 58th Sarawak Independence Day celebration and in all these years, we have been together through rain and shine like a big family,” said the assemblyman.

Lo noted that the independence day was officially gazetted as Sarawak’s public holiday in 2016 thanks to the leadership of former chief minister , the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem.

“We must ask ourselves today why we are able to commemorate such an occasion. This is due to us having a stable state government that promotes peace and harmony.

“Fifth-eight years is a long time and we have come a long way with big transformations in all parts of Sarawak,” he added.

He pointed out that Sarawak had played an important part in the formation of Malaysia as one of the founding partners.

“On July 22 1963, the British granted Sarawak self-government on the condition that it joined Malaya, North Borneo (Sabah) and Singapore to form Malaysia.

“Prior to the 18 points agreement, the white rajahs of Sarawak had drafted the nine cardinal principles by which Sarawak shall be governed. The 18 points agreement is similar in content to the cardinal principles.

“This was the agreement we entered into before we signed on the dotted line together with Malaya, Singapore, Sabah (then North Borneo) to form the Federation of Malaysia,” he said.

He said among the 18 points agreement in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) were freedom of religion, freedom of language and freedom of worship as well as English as the language of instruction in schools. 

He also stressed that Sarawak should have full control of its land and resources, and all state government agencies shall be headed by Sarawakians.

Lo expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s leadership in securing five percent sales tax for Sarawak’s petroleum products.

He also hoped that Sarawak would have one-third representation of the seats in parliament.

“Once we have that, I am sure everything else we have been fighting for as Sarawakians, including increased autonomy for education and health will naturally fall into place.

“The 18 points agreement drafted in the MA63 detailed the wishes of our forefathers and the wishes of the people of Sarawak on the principles and aspirations by which Malaysia should be formed.

“If there is no Sarawak, there is no Malaysia. This is why July 22 and MA63 are so important to us.”

“This is a day we should cherish and hold pride in for our Fair Land Sarawak. This is a day for us to hold our heads high and be counted as Sarawakians First. We are in a unique State with rich resources; something we should be thankful for.

“Sarawak is host to the highest variety of ethnic races and yet we show the world how close knit we all are. We are able to live, work and celebrate our different cultures together, joining in the many different festivals,” he added. 

He further said Sarawakians are able to commemorate such an occasion due to having a stable State government that promotes peace and harmony.

He expressed gratitude that under Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s leadership, Sarawak has managed to secure five per cent sales tax on Sarawak’s petroleum products worth USD3.9 billion.

Additionally, he said the 18-point agreement which was used in the drafting of Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) detailed the wishes of the State’s forefathers and the people of Sarawak on the principles and aspirations by which Malaysia should be formed.

“Among the 18 points were freedom of religion, freedom of language and freedom of worship. English shall be the language of instruction in schools. Land and resources are 100 per cent Sarawak’s. All government agencies shall be headed by Sarawakians.

“Our history books should state that Sarawak did not join Malaysia. On July 22, 1963, the British granted Sarawak self-government on the condition that it joined Malaya, North Borneo and Singapore to form Malaysia.

“Prior to the 18-point agreement, the White Rajahs of Sarawak had drafted the nine cardinal principles by which Sarawak shall be governed. The 18-point agreement is similar in content to the nine cardinal principles but strengthened. Sabah had their 20-point agreement along the same line as well. 疫情籠罩更突顯護砂重要性 羅克強促人們續支持GPS

（古晋21日讯）人联党巴都吉当区议员罗克强坦言今年的砂拉越独立日（砂拉越日）碰上冠病疫情的笼罩，让人们进一步了解守护砂拉越的重要性。

他说，砂拉越独立日对砂拉越是具有历史意义和重要日子，这天除了列为公共假期，理应要大肆庆祝，让砂拉越子民同欢共庆和世代缅怀砂拉越的发展事迹。

不过遗憾的是，基于疫情关系，人们再一年不能大肆庆祝，尽管如此，人们爱护砂拉越的情怀，并没有受到影响，各族还是一如既往热爱及守护砂拉越。

他说，疫情的发生，让人们始料不及，它不仅冲击砂拉越在内地各国经济和人民生活，也夺走不少人命，更让前线的医务人员日夜奔波，为疫情和保护人民生命奋战。

“从这次砂拉越爆发疫情过程中，我们看到砂政府对人民做出的保护与关怀，为了切断病毒的传播与蔓延，实施了行动管制令，而这项政策也直接影响人民生活与作息，然而政府通过派发物资、派发援助金和各种优惠，来减低人民的生活困难与压力。政府从今年1月迄今，已经斥资超过1700万令吉作为人民的物资援助。”

在保护砂拉越人民受到疫情影响方面，罗克强表示，砂政府为全砂人民提供免费疫苗注射、免费为砂拉越公民提供酒店隔离政策和免费为民众提供检测等。

虽然行动党对砂拉越政府进行的注射疫苗冷嘲热讽，不认为砂政府一天可以达到注射5万剂的目标，但事实证明，砂政府做到了，甚至超过5万剂的目标。

从这次疫情中，人们看到砂拉越政府努力不懈保护每位砂拉越公民和砂拉越，因此他希望大家持续给予砂政党联盟所执政的砂拉越政府支持，继续为保护砂拉越与人民做出努力。

沒砂就沒馬來西亞 羅克強：砂人應自豪

（古晋20日讯）巴达旺市议会主席兼峇都吉当区议员罗克强指出，砂拉越政府于2016年在宪报上将砂拉越独立日列为公共假期，旨在提升砂人民对砂拉越历史及先贤奋斗史的醒觉。

他今天为砂拉越独立日发表献词时说，砂拉越每年7月22日是砂拉越独立日公共假期，旨在纪念砂拉越于1963年7月22日成立自治政府的历史。

他借此促请人们应该珍惜这一天，为自己是砂拉越人的身份感到自豪，并坦言砂拉越拥有丰富资源，与众不同的民情与文化，这是砂人应该感谢的事。

“砂拉越拥有多元种族与文化，我们已向全世界展示我们多元交融，和谐相处的一面。各族在同一屋檐下和谐共处、一起生活、工作及庆祝彼此不同的节庆，分享佳节的喜庆。”

罗克强说，今年是砂拉越第58届独立日纪念，过去以来，我们像个大家庭般，同舟共济，守望相助。

无论如何，他说砂拉越是在已故砂首长丕显斯里阿德南沙登，于2016年在世时，努力不懈的争取下，才能享有砂拉越独立日公共假期。

“我们扪心自问，是什么让我们可以纪念这有意义的日子？其实，这是因为我们享有稳定的砂拉越政府，不断促进和谐与和平。”

他称，58年是一段漫长的旅途，砂拉越各地在这期间经历巨大变革，有目共睹。

“在这第58届独立日纪念日，我感谢砂首长拿督巴丁宜阿邦佐哈里，在他英明领导下，砂拉越成功落实5%石油产品销售税政策，为砂拉越带来额外39亿令吉收入。然而，作为一名砂拉越人，我仍然殷切希望砂拉越能在国会有三分之一的席位，若这能够实现，我很肯定我们为砂拉越争取的每一项权益，包括教育及医药自主权将会水到渠成。”

他也说，1963年建国契约18点协议充份说明先贤的愿景，以及砂拉越人民对共组马来西亚的原则及期望。这18点协议包括宗教自由、语言自由及信仰自由。英语应该是学校教学媒介语，土地与资源权益100%属于砂拉越及所有政府机构应该由砂拉越人领导。

“我们的历史教科书应该清楚阐明砂拉越不是加入马来西亚。1963年7月22日，英国政府授予砂拉越自治权，条件是与马来亚、北婆罗洲及新加坡一起组成马来西亚。在18点协议产生之前，砂拉越白人拉惹起草治理砂拉越的9项基本原则，而18点协议基本上与9项基本原则相似，但得到加强。沙巴也拥有本身的20点协议，这是我们在组成马来西亚之前所达致的协议。”

有鉴于此，砂拉越实际上是马来西亚成立的重要部分，不是13个州属之一。我们是组成这个国家的三个创始伙伴之一，没有砂拉越，就没有马来西亚。这就是为何722砂拉越独立日及1963年建国契约对我们如此重要。

（古晋20日讯）7月22日是砂拉越日，纪念砂拉越于1963年7月22日取得自治权。峇都吉当区州议员罗克强认为，我们应该珍惜并为自己是砂拉越人而感到自豪。

“我们拥有丰富资源，与众不同的民情与文化，这是我们应该感谢的事。砂拉越拥有多元种族与文化，我们已向全世界展示砂拉越的多元交融，和谐相处的一面。”

他强调，7月22日砂拉越日的这一天，是前任砂首长一股丹斯里阿德南于2016年仍载人时，经过努力不懈的争取下，宪报颁布这一天为砂拉越日的公共假期。

（古晋20日讯）峇都吉当区议员罗克强表示，庆祝722砂拉越独立日之际，应该推动历史教科书清楚阐明砂拉越不是加入马来西亚，因为英国政府于1963年7月22日授予砂拉越自治权，条件是与马来亚、北婆罗洲及新加坡一起组成马来西亚。

“在1963年马来西亚协议的18点协议产生之前，砂拉越白人拉惹起草治理砂拉越的9项基本原则，而18点协议基本上与9项基本原则相似，但得到加强。沙巴也拥有本身的20点协议，这是我们在组成马来西亚之前所达致的协议。”

“有鉴于此，砂拉越实际上是马来西亚成立的重要部分，不是13个州属之一。我们是组成这个国家的三个创始伙伴之一，没有砂拉越，就没有马来西亚。这就是为何722砂拉越独立日及1963年建国契约对我们如此重要。”

他提醒，1963年马来西亚协议18点协议充份说明先贤的愿景，以及砂拉越人民对共组马来西亚的原则及期望，这18点协议包括宗教自由、语言自由及信仰自由、英语应该是学校教学媒介语、土地与资源权益100%属于砂拉越及所有政府机构应该由砂拉越人领导。

也是巴达旺市议会主席罗克强在发表2021年砂拉越独立日献词时，如是强调。

他继称，全砂人民如今得以庆祝722砂拉越日，除了是已故砂首长丕显斯里阿迪南沙登于2016年在世时努力不懈的争取，更是因为享有稳定的砂拉越政府，不断促进和谐与和平。

他指出，今年是砂拉越第58届独立日纪念，58年是一段漫长的旅途，砂拉越各地在这期间经历巨大变革，有目共睹。

（古晋20日讯）巴达旺市议会主席兼峇都吉当区议员罗克强指出，砂拉越政府于2016年在宪报上将砂拉越独立日列为公共假期，旨在提升砂人民对砂拉越历史及先贤奋斗史的醒觉。

他今天为砂拉越独立日发表献词时说，砂拉越每年7月22日是砂拉越独立日公共假期，旨在纪念砂拉越于1963年7月22日成立自治政府的历史。

他借此促请人们应该珍惜这一天，为自己是砂拉越人的身份感到自豪，并坦言砂拉越拥有丰富资源，与众不同的民情与文化，这是砂人应该感谢的事。

“砂拉越拥有多元种族与文化，我们已向全世界展示我们多元交融，和谐相处的一面。各族在同一屋檐下和谐共处、一起生活、工作及庆祝彼此不同的节庆，分享佳节的喜庆。”

MPP: Third Mile Maong Bazaar hawkers get own spot and license for trading

KUCHING, July 19: Hawkers in 3rd Mile Maong Bazaar here can now operate their business legally from 1pm until 7pm daily at their designated location, starting today.

According to Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang, previously, the hawkers have been operating illegally by occupying the car park in front of the shop lots in Maong Bazaar and their operation has caused problems to the public.

Lo, who is also Batu Kitang assemblyman, said the hawkers’ operation also caused dissatisfaction among the shop owners in the area and the council have received some complaints regarding the matter because they (hawkers) are operating without a license.

“Eventually, through the efforts from MPP councillor Amy Tnay, the hawkers, shopkeepers and market stall operators have come down to an agreement where they will be put under the management of a local non-governmental organisation (Sah Kong Kuching martial arts organisation).

“This will enable the hawkers to trade in a proper manner and legally, while at the same time following the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set,” he said.

Lo told this to reporters after witnessing the handing over of the hawkers’ master license to Sah Kong Kuching martial arts organisation chairman Jimmy Kung in a simple ceremony held at the 3rd Mile Maong Bazaar car park, behind the shop lots, today.

Meanwhile, Tnay said the hawkers issue, which has been dragging on for quite some time, has caused problems to the public, especially during festive season.

“That is why we try to look for a solution for everyone involved, and we have come out with a “test run” for it.

“So far, the “test run” has received a good response from the parties involved in the agreement, and as of now, a total of 15 traders are doing their business here, from 1pm until 7pm daily,” she added. — DayakDaily
