Kpg Bumbok residents to get fiber internet connectivity by March
KUCHING, Nov 26: More than 1,500 households in Kampung Bumbuk and the surrounding areas in Batu Kitang constituency, will be able to enjoy fiber internet connectivity by the first quarter of 2021.
According to the assemblyman for Batu Kitang Lo Khere Chiang, this is made possible thanks to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also the chairman for Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA).
“Before this, the connectivity in this area was poor, and some of the constituents here couldn’t even receive it (due to lack of facilities). But today, I am very pleased that the internet connectivity has been brought to my constituency, and the constituents here will be able to enjoy and benefit from better internet connectivity,” he said.
Lo told this to reporters during a press conference held after reviewing the internet connectivity requirements at Kampung Bumbok, today.
At the same time, Lo noted that the facilities for Kampung Bumbok and its surrounding areas cost about RM10 million.
“For the whole of Batu Kitang constituency, it is expected to be ready by the end of 2021, and will cost around RM30 to 40 million,” he added.
On another matter, Lo also presented monetary assistance of RM450 to a single mother, Ani Nios, 56, with two children with disabilities (OKU) in Kampung Bumbok.
The assistant was presented under his Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocation, to help cover for her medical treatment, after undergoing a knee operation due to an accident.
Also present were Telekom Malaysia (TM) general Manager Jafer Sadig Abdul Lathiff and head of the village Kampung Bumbok Jonnis Rened. –DayakDaily.
KUCHING: Sarawakians must continue to support the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government and the Perikatan Nasional (PN) federal government to ensure political stability and the state’s continued development agenda.
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said the nation and state’s development would only carry on when the politics of the day was stable, Otherwise, everything would go haywire.
“Imagine if there is a change in the government again at the federal level, all the state’s initiatives will go down the drain. Everything, especially project allocation, will go haywire.
“Who knows what is the agenda of the next political leadership? We will never know.
“So that is why it is so important to support GPS under the leadership of the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s government to ensure there is political stability.
“The support of Sarawakians is also important to ensure there is continued development agenda under the leadership of Abang Johari,” he said at a press conference in Kampung Bumbok in Batu Kitang here on Thursday (Nov 26).
“For instance, due to the state government’s aspiration in digital economy, we can see that Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) has come forward to work together and provide its UniFi service in Batu Kitang Constituency here.
“This is also immediately after I brought up the issue of poor Internet connection in my constituency in the recent State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting,” he added.
Lo: RoRo bins a must at construction, renovation sites for waste disposal
KUCHING, Nov 25: All developers and house owners carrying out construction and renovation works in the Padawan areas are now required to rent RoRo bins for the proper disposal of building and demolition (C&D) waste at work sites.
Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang emphasised that this new policy was implemented following the Public Health Standing Committee meeting on Nov 4 this year.
“This new policy is aimed at reducing the amount of C&D waste that was illegally dumped as well as to provide a better quality solid waste management in MPP jurisdiction,” he said at a press conference after the monthly full council meeting via Zoom today.
Illegal dumping, Lo pressed, has become a major concern for the council as the cost for its management has increased significantly over the years.
“In 2019, MPP has identified 15 hotspots of illegal dumping site and the clearing works had incurred about RM128,213 per year. “Most of the dumpings found by the roadside consisted of construction and renovation waste,” he added.
The RORO bin can be rented from Trienekens with a 10m3 suitable for disposal of heavy construction waste at RM330 for three days period.
Further rental extension is charged at RM20 per day or RM1,270 on a monthly basis.
With the policy, Lo said developers and renovators will have to produce to the Council a rental receipt of the RoRo container or weighbridge ticket as a proof of proper disposal at Mambong sanitary landfill by Trienekens.
Illegal dumping, Lo warned, is an offence under By-Law 18(3) of the Local Authorities (Cleanliness) By-Laws, 1999.
“Any person found guilty of dumping waste illegally can be fined of RM1,000 for the first offence, and in the case of a second or subsequent offence, a further fine of RM2,000 or imprisonment for six months or both,” he said.

KUCHING: Kampung Haji Baki has been praised for its cooperation with the authorities during the enforcement of the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang, who is Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman, expressed his gratitude towards the residents, who underwent the EMCO from Oct 28 to Nov 13 due to the Covid-19 Baki Cluster.
“Aside from one or two unaccommodating cases, everyone else was super cooperative, patient, and compliant. Because of this harmonious unity, the operation was a success and we see Kampung Haji Baki’s lockdown lifted after 17 days,” Lo told a press conference on Monday.
Nonetheless, he advised residents to continue to exercise caution when venturing out of the village, as Kuching is still under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) as a result of a resurgence of new Covid-19 cases.
“I wish to advise my Kampung Haji Baki folk to stay vigilant and safe, and please make sure your face mask is always kept on when being in the public. Also, wash your hands frequently and practise social distancing,” Lo said.
He thanked Deputy Chief Minister and State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas for taking swift action in containing the outbreak of Covid-19 cases in the area.
“Once again, I would also like to thank the kind donors from various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and individuals who donated rice, eggs, diapers, and many other essential items. We could not have sailed through this EMCO without all of you,” said Lo.
Among those present at the press conference were Penghulu Saptuyah Yusof, Block A secretary Saeed Satimin, Ketua Kaum Baslie Sulaiman of Block B, and Ketua Kaum Rosli Ahmad Darus of Block C.
