He pointed out that although the state is a major contributor to the federal government coffers every year, the state gets nothing back.
“Sarawak contributes 30 per cent of the country’s oil revenue and 60 per cent of gas, and we still get nothing back … and to add insult to injury, our grants have been suspended or slashed after PH government took over,” he told the august house yesterday, when debating the Head of State’s opening address.
He cited the scrapping of Rambungan, Igan and Batang Lupar bridges by the PH government as examples of projects suspended by the federal government.
Other projects he mentioned that were scrapped by PH government were the Haji Baki hawker centre and Dewan Haji Baki costing RM800,000 and RM1 million respectively.
Lo also said the same happened to the RM250-million flood mitigation projects mentioned by former minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dato Sri Wan Junaidi under the previous Barisan Nasional government.
Lo also pointed out that the sales tax on petroleum products be raised to 10 per cent from the current five per cent because the federal government said it had no money for dilapidated schools, roads and other projects.
