Lo Khere Chiang
KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) does not simply catch any dog; it rounds up only strays, says council chairman Lo Khere Chiang, who is Batu Kitang assemblyman.
According to him, unless the owner of a dog chooses to surrender the animal, MPP would not just go out there to catch it.
“The council only catches stray dogs – (those) without collar. Only if the owner of the dog surrenders the dog and asks the council to catch (it), would our officer come in,” he told The Borneo Post here when contacted yesterday.
Lo’s remarks were made in response to a complaint about MPP catching a dog owned by a resident in Stapok area here recently.
In this respect, he called upon the owner concerned to approach the MPP officer to obtain a clearer picture, instead of accusing the council of catching his dog.
“If possible, I would like the complainant to come forward and meet our officer, and tell (us) the whole story for investigation.”
Lo said if the complainant could not meet the MPP officer for clarification, the complaint would seem like ‘a one-sided story only’.
“I would encourage the owner to come in to meet our public health officer, to allow our staff and the owner to understand each other better (and) for us to be able to help the owner,” added Lo.
