The month-long event is expected to double the number of visitors of last year’s that registered 120,000 people, particularly given the acrobatic troupe from China which will perform between Sept 9 and 15.
Nearly 100 booths for both food and trade fair are to be lined up for the coming fair, which Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) lists as the most profitable among its 12 annual events.
Apart from Padawan Fair, MPP also organises Sejijak Mini Regatta, Kejohanan Futsal Wanita Jemputan, Liga Jemputan MPP, Pesta Kebudayaan Masyarakat, BHR Padawan Nature Challenge,
Padawan Raft Safari, MPP Commemoration Day, Padawan Landscape Competition, Motorcycle Racing, Telaga Air Triathlon (cycling, running and kayaking) and Fishing and Cooking Competition and Pertandingan Bola Keranjang every year.
MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang said the council made a profit of over RM30,000 from last year’s fair and expressed confidence that the forthcoming fair would turn out better.
“We have all the more reason to believe that this year’s Padawan Fair will draw in more people as we have an acrobatic troupe from China to stage a two-hour show everyday from Sept 9.
“Besides better food, a lot of entertainment events can be expected. We will also see performances by Iban artists and local singers from West Malaysia,” he said at MPP’s conference room here yesterday.
Lo was pleased to announce that experienced fair operator Embun Kiara Sdn Bhd had been entrusted to set up food and trade stalls.
“Embun Kiara is also the fair operator for Kuching Festival. MPP hopes that those operating at Kuching Festival will continue their business at Padawan Fair.”
He added that the fair offered a platform for entrepreneurs to generate additional income as well as for MPP to foster closer ties with the community especially residents in its jurisdiction.
Minister of Local Government and Community Development Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh will launch the fair on Aug 23.
Those interested in food or trade booths can call Embun Kiara Sdn Bhd at 019-8871269.
Among those present were organising chairman Lee Sin Fah and deputy organising chairman Richard Kian Hua Mudeh.
