Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said the purpose was to understand the problems faced by hawkers and traders in the state.
“The dialogue session also serves to find solutions as well as to understand the development and welfare of the association members,” she said at the Parents’ Day Dinner organised by the Kuching-Samarahan Divisions Hawkers and Traders Association at the Association of Churches Hall on Sunday night.
Fatimah also informed that the ministry was not just for Bumiputeras but for people of all races.
“Please do not misunderstand that the ministry is only for Bumiputeras. It is for all races as we are 1Malaysia.So if you have any problems with welfare or family, you can always refer to the ministry,” she told the members present.
Meanwhile, Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh called on Sarawakians to continue to uphold racial harmony.
“The spirit of 1Malaysia must be maintained. The government has also declared November 18 as Hawkers Day, which is celebrated annually in tribute to all hawkers and traders,” he said.
Wong announced a contribution of RM5,000 for the association’s activities. Also present were Public Health Assistant Minister Dr Jerip Susil, Environment Assistant Minister Datu Len Talif Salleh, Padawan Municipal Council chairman Lo Khere Chiang. Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association president Datuk Patrick Liew and other invited guests.
