Meranti FC victorious at Olive Cup futsal





KUCHING: Meranti FC emerged victorious in the Women’s Open of the Second Olive Cup futsal tournament which ended yesterday at the Kota Sentosa Sports and Recreation centre.

The team made-up of six close friends won the title with style as they vanquished their opponents with poise to reach the summit of the tournament which saw six teams taking part.

For their hard work, Meranti FC received RM250 while runners-up Olive Wan got RM150 and third place winner Praise Valley Girls collected RM100. All the top three teams also received medals.

Finishing in fourth place were Lun Bawang Women while the Fair Play award went to Praise Valley Girls. In the Men’s Open final, TMN Mambang displayed superb dribbling and passing skills to outclass PV (Press Valley) A 7-1.

While it was an easy final game for TMN Mambang, they had to work very hard for the semi-final win earlier against Qamilla FC where it was decided on a penalty shoot-out.

Both teams had drawn 2-2 at full-time but it was TMN Mambang who prevailed 3-2 in the shoot-out.

They received the Olive Cup challenge trophy and RM1,000 cash while PV A collected RM500 and medals.

TMN Mambang scooped another honour when they won the Fair Play award. Coming in third place in the 26-team competition were Qamilla FC while De’ Peruan were fourth. Qamilla received RM300 for their efforts.

In the three-team Men’s Veteran contest, CMM Sarawak emerged the champion with the runnersup spot taken by 101 United and the third placed winner is The Rock FC.

Huskom FC won the Boys Under-15 title and was rewarded with RM150 while runners-up Facai FC pocketed RM100 with Gramzone in third placing.

The annual competition is organised by SIB Olive Garden was aimed at providing a platform for inter-action between church members and to get the residents of Kota Sentosa involved in healthy activities and to foster ties among each other.

Padawan Municipal Council chairman Lo Khere Chiang closed the event and gave away the prizes.
