Sarawak PAC to inspect projects on the ground to identify issues, weaknesses
KUCHING (March 21): The Sarawak Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has decided to go to the ground to inspect specific projects in the state to further understand issues and weaknesses.
Sarawak PAC chairman Razaili Gapor said that based on audit findings, there were several weaknesses in the management and implementation of various projects.
“Therefore, some agencies need to review whether it’s from an administrative, financial, or operational procedure standpoint.
“The state PAC has also decided to go to the ground and physically inspect specific projects to gain a better understanding of the issues and weaknesses related to the projects.
“This will also assess the steps taken to address these issues,” he said in a statement after the 56th Sarawak PAC Meeting here held from March 19-20.
The meeting was attended by Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How, Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang, Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh, Kabong assemblyman Mohd Chee Kadir, Batu Kitang assemblyman Dato Lo Khere Chiang, and Rolland Duar Jubin among others.
The meeting focused on the Auditor General’s Report for Sarawak 2021 (Series 2), which was presented at the State Legislative Assembly Meeting in November last year.
The Sarawak PAC is also committed to fulfilling its role in ensuring public funds are spent prudently and achieve the objectives set for each expenditure or project approved by the state government.
Following the presentation of the Auditor General’s Report for 2021 (Series 2) at the Nov 2023 State Legislative Assembly session, the state PAC has decided to examine all the issues raised.
MPKS chairman impressed by Sarawakian Chinese rep giving away ‘bubur lambuk’ ahead of Ramadan
By DayakDaily Team
KUCHING, March 11: As Muslims in Sarawak gear up to begin fasting tomorrow (March 12), a Chinese assemblyman is already giving away ‘bubur lambuk’ as a special gift of encouragement to them.
Kota Samarahan Municipal Council chairman Dato Peter Minos explained that he was driving his family to Kampung Haji Baki’s community hall enroute to Kampung Semeba yesterday (March 10) when they were stopped by Batu Kitang assemblyman Dato Lo Khere Chiang who was busy giving away ‘bubur lambuk’.
“What a big and pleasant surprise—a YB and a Dato sponsoring and physically handing over bubur lambuk to the public. I was happily impressed.
“Lo’s action means that he is someone who cares for his constituents and respect their religion in light of the upcoming Ramadan,” he said in a statement recently.
Minos also said that such gestures as shown by Lo is common in Sarawak, and also symbolised the religious harmony and understanding among its citizens.
“We treat each other simply as Sarawakians, not bothering what race or religion others belong to. We must keep it this way.
“It is the best way for us to be united and thus to develop our State socially and in economic way. It is a great way of surviving a very challenging and difficult world,” he added. — DayakDaily
Unfair to blame Dr Sim for Kuching’s flash flood problem, Batu Kitang rep tells Sarawak DAP chief
PADAWAN, March 3 — Batu Kitang state assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang today said it is unfair for Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen to put the blame squarely on Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian for the frequent occurrences of flash floods in Kuching City after a heavy downpour.
He said Chong, being an MP, should raise the matter to Putrajaya rather than towards the state minister of public health, housing and local government.
"The flooding issue is under the Concurrent List of the Federal Constitution and, therefore, the federal government has to shoulder 50 per cent or more of the responsibility to solve the flash flood issue,” Lo, who is also the former Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) chairman, told reporters after handing over food baskets to the single parents and B40 group here.
He cited the Kampung Quap area at 11km Kuching-Serian Highway, as an example of a place that is frequently affected by the flash flood problem — which is taking about RM400 million to solve.

To solve this, he said the federal government had to come up with a master plan, detailed planning, and design to solve the Kampung Quap flood problem, in addition to approval from the federal Drainage and Irrigation Department.
"So whose responsibility is it to bring the issue to the federal government? It is Chong, by being the MP for Stampin and Sarawak DAP chairman?” Lo asked.
"He spent only 20 seconds of his speech when he mentioned flash floods in Parliament, and he expects 20 seconds to be able to solve the flash floods issue?”

He said a huge sum of money is required to solve the problem, which also occurs in other areas of Kuching City, such as Batu Kawa, Batu Lintang, BDC area, Arang Road and Kota Sentosa bazaar.
Chong, in a statement yesterday, had called on Dr Sim to be accountable for the increasing frequencies and severity of flash floods in Kuching.
He had said both PMC and Kuching South City Council, which are responsible for building plans and drainage systems in the city, and the state Department of Irrigation and Drainage come under Dr Sim’s ministry of public health, housing and local government.
He claimed that the flash flood problems in Kuching are getting from bad to worse, alleging that it reflects on the poor planning and execution on the part of the minister and his Ministry.
