Lo tells developers to expedite issuance of strata titles for houses

KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang has urged housing developers to ‘diligently’ pursue the issuance of land or strata title for houses built by them.

Lo, who is also SUPP Kota Sentosa branch chairman, said some developers took their ‘sweet time’ with the land or strata land title application after receiving their payment.

“The local council will inspect for occupation permit (OP) but the processing of (land or strata) title is between the Land and Survey Department and developer,” he said after chairing MPP full council meeting yesterday.

Lo was asked to comment on complaints by house buyers of low cost flats such as in Taman Flora Indah on the delay in issuance of strata land title.

He confirmed that in the case of Taman Flora Indah, the flats had been issued OP, adding that he had made a public statement four years ago calling for the issuance of strata land title for the flats to be expedited.

“There is a set of procedure that they (developers) have to go through, including survey of properties to get the strata title issued.”

While lauding the state government’s initiative to monitor the issuance of land titles, Lo said it would encourage developers to be more serious in applying for land or strata title for their housing projects,

“At the moment, some of them just relax with their ‘tak apa’ (never mind) attitude. But I think it is time for the state secretary to take positive steps to encourage the developers to be responsible and work diligently to get land or strata title.”

Meanwhile MPP secretary Andrew Joris said in any housing development, there were certain requirements set by the local council that the developers must comply with.

“It is only and until they comply with our requirements that we will issue their projects with OP.”

  1. On the Strata Title issues and other related Issues with flats.

I have initiated 2 meetings with Housing Commission and Land & Survey since early 2015 and another one in end of Dec 2015.
MPP via those meetings have taken over the maintenance of roads and drains with funds provided by the state financial secretary office.
I will continue to hold further meetings to push for housing commission to obtain strata titles.
My position as an elected representative will surely add weight to my pursuance.
Please give me a chance. Give me your votes.
