KUCHING:
Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) Chairman Lo Khere Chiang said he would consider
himself performing a duty for his party Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP)
and the people if he is chosen to replace Stampin incumbent Datuk Yong Khoon
Seng in the forthcoming parliamentary election.
“It is an old story (of him replacing Yong)...but if such an instruction to replace Yong comes from SUPP and State Barisan Nasional (BN) leaderships, then I consider it as performing a duty to my party and the people in Stampin constituency,” he said.
Lo seemed reluctant to make the comment when asked by New Sarawak Tribune about the rumours that he would be replacing Yong, who had stressed he would not be seeking re-election, during a press conference at his office yesterday.
“I am not the ‘best’ candidate,” he humbly admitted, “There are much better candidates for the replacement.
However, if instructed by my leaders, then I will give my best shot as I have also to perform as PMC chairman.
Rumours and speculations had been brewing for the past few weeks that Lo would be the top candidate to replace five-term Yong for the Stampin parliamentary seat in the coming parliamentary election which will be held at any time soon.
