KUCHING: More than 30 individuals took part in a Drug Free Community Programme called Training-of-Trainer (TOT) organised by the National Anti-drugs Agency Malaysia (AADK) in collaboration with the Batu Kitang Service Centre.
According to a statement released yesterday, the programme involved participation from village heads, neighbourhood leaders (KRT), and community leaders.
It began with an awareness session on drug-related issues and abuse, followed by discussions on community empowerment, assessing risk and protective factors, and creating a community action plan.
The event received support and attention from Batu Kitang assemblyman, Lo Khere Chiang, who attended to show his support for the community in his constituency.
KUCHING (June 3): Nearly 300 people took part in the three-day Borneo Heights Glamping Festival held on June 1 at Borneo Highlands Resort here.
The resort was previously closed down in June 2020 by former developer, Country Heights Holdings Berhad.
As many as 90 tents were set up to enjoy the cool air in the area surrounded by the virgin forests, according to a press release.
A dinner event was also held at the clubhouse to commemorate the first anniversary of Borneo Heights Residents Association, which had secured permission from the authorities for the festival.
Association chairman Lo Khere Chiang, who is Batu Kitang assemblyman, said the government has plans to further develop the resort and improve its infrastructures and facilities.
“Judging from the response to this event, it is evident that our local people want the resort to be re-opened and they appreciate the natural beauty of the resort,” he said.
He added that the chief executive officer of Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office in Singapore and its officers were amongst those who took part in the festival.
The press release said arrangements have been made for Singaporean government officials, journalists and businessmen to visit the resort later this month and in July.
This, it pointed out, would boost potential investments in tourism facilities and products in the Borneo Highlands, which is gazetted under Section 13E of the Land Code to enable foreigners to acquire land and property.
The Oxford English Dictionary defines glamping as a form of camping involving accommodation and facilities more luxurious than those associated with traditional camping.
Club to safeguard rights, interests of Borneo Highlands Resort residents
KUCHING (June 5): The Borneo Highlands Residents Club (BHRC) which is registered with the Registrar of Societies will safeguard rights and interests of Borneo Highlands Resort residents, said Lo Khere Chiang.
The Batu Kitang assemblyman and club chairman said the residents have been faced with issues such as water and electricity supply, road maintenance, as well as security since the Borneo Highland Resort’s developer closed the resort down three years ago.
“BHRC has pursued these issues from the day of its formation and will continue to put forward the residents’ rights,” he added in a statement today.
He said many of the registered land purchasers in Borneo Highlands Resort have not received their land titles from the now defunct Borneo Highlands developer.
“One of the main objectives of the club is to safeguard the rights and interests of the residents and property owners. The club is playing a pivotal role in fostering relationship between the government agencies and the residents,” he added.
Meanwhile, the club held its first anniversary celebration at the Borneo Highlands Resort clubhouse on Jun 1.
“The three days two nights Glamping Festival held in conjunction with the club’s first anniversary celebration had attracted some 300 participants of all races, mainly young people from all walks of life.
“From casual conversations with some of them, we gathered that Borneo Highlands is an ideal place for glamping or camping due to its cool climate, fresh air, and scenic surrounding,” said Lo.
Registered land purchasers in Borneo Highland Resort who are not members of BHRC and wish to join the club can contact its secretary Liew Nam Boon at 019-8864126 or email 2022bhrc@gmail.com for more details.
