Lo chides Chong over native proposal

KUCHING: Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang has chided his Padungan counterpart Chong Chieng Jen over his proposed amendment to the Interpretation (Amendment) Bill, 2022.

He said that Chong was a very irresponsible person to raise such a suggestion.

“We are not natives of Sarawak, we have to accept the fact that we are not native of Sarawak.

“But we are citizens of Sarawak, we share the same IC and receive allocations from the government.

“So, most importantly, whether we are native or not native in Sarawak, we are all citizens, born, live and die here,” he told reporters when met at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex on Tuesday.

Lo said it was important to recognise and respect the natives of Sarawak.

Earlier, Chong had proposed an amendment to the Bill under Standing Order 50 (4) and 54 whereby, “Clause 2 of the Bill be amended by inserting immediately after the word ‘Vaie’ in the new line, the words ‘Chinese, Indian, or any race not stated herein and the person of which race is born in Sarawak and whose natural parents or either or one the natural parents is also born in Sarawak.”

Commenting further, Lo said that Chong already had a big house, was rich and questioned what more he wanted.

“Do you want to be native of Sarawak just to take the inheritance of Sarawak? I don’t think you need to, you are rich enough,” he said.

In Sarawak, he added the people have been living in peace and harmony and this must be preserved.

“So, what Chong proposed, I do not agree,” he said.

Lo: ‘Premier’ post will distinguish Sarawak from peninsula states

KUCHING (Feb 15): The proposed amendment to change the designation and style of the name of the Chief Minister’s post to ‘Premier’ is a good starting point to differentiate Sarawak from states in Peninsular Malaysia, said Lo Khere Chiang.

The Batu Kitang assemblyman asserted that the state deserves the title of ‘Premier’ as an important first step towards regaining and achieving all that is listed under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“We are now flexing our muscles by amending the word ‘Chief Minister’ to ‘Premier’ to identify ourself to be different from all the other chief ministers, including Penang, in the federated states of Malaya.

“I implore all Sarawakians to stand together and to support this historical move,” he said when debating the Constitution of the State of Sarawak (Amendment) Bill, 2022 today.

In expressing his support for the proposed amendment Bill, Lo commented it has been a long and tedious journey to get to where the state is now.

He pointed out that it is only through the perseverance and patience of the state’s leaders that Sarawak has reached this stage.

“I must say, Sarawak is indeed on the right track moving towards better days with (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri) Abang Johari (Tun Openg) at the helm,” he said.

With the Inter Government Committee (IGC) report, Lo said the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government will ensure that the details of what is Sarawak’s entitlement will be regained in stages.

He asserted that the federal government should know that GPS can win handsomely as it emphasises on the people first.

“Our Chief Minister is a visionary leader who can and will bring Sarawak to be on par with global achievements, and with our entitlements returned, this can become a reality. Our Chief Minister has done a lot of foundation work for Sarawak.

“Although the process may seem slow at first, we are moving forward despite the many hurdles in front of us. With persistence, patience, and grit, Abang Johari has made Sarawak financially independent.

“As seen from his capability, our Chief Minister is not only visionary but enterprising. He knows that with financial independence, Sarawak can be strong politically to do more for Sarawakians. We are getting stronger day by day and with Sarawakians living in harmony, we shall certainly emerge a champion within Malaysia,” he said.

（古晋15日讯）针对峇加拉兰区州议员巴鲁比安指将“首长”修改为“总理”，可能会造成“违宪”，峇都吉当区州议员罗克强了解巴鲁比安的顾虑。不过，他相信砂盟政府已考虑周全，建议修正有关称呼是符合宪法的。

罗克强今午在州议会会议，参与2022年砂拉越宪法（修正）法案辩论时说，修正案是砂盟执政所提出的，并非是希盟政府建议。

他说，砂首长及砂盟在州选中赢下76席位，这是无可置疑，因此，砂想有巨大变化及影响。

他认同修改宪法，因为这能达到目标。而且，这是一道漫长的路，只有通过领导人的毅力及耐心，砂才能走到这个阶段。

罗克强说，砂走在正确方向，砂盟提倡“砂拉越优先”，并会兑现向人民所许下的承诺。砂盟不像希盟政府，只会指责他人，却无法向人民兑现承诺。

“砂与马来亚州属有别，砂人民和睦相处，我们不需要马来亚州属的政治价值加在砂身上。”

他认为，砂值得拥有“总理”称号，这在争取1963年建国契约中权益的重要步骤。

“通过修改为‘总理’，可以表现出砂与马来亚半岛包括槟城有着不同地位。因此，希望砂人民也可以同一条心，支持及见证这历史性一刻。”

建议第三代华印度裔为原住民 罗克强：张健仁在挑种族情绪

（古晋15日讯）峇都吉当区州议员罗克强感到遗憾，同时也不同意浮罗岸区州议员张健仁透过2022年诠释（修正）法案，挑起种族情绪课题。

他今日下午于州议会结束后接受访问时说，浮罗岸区州议员张健仁提出将第三代华人及印度人列为原住民的建议，是在玩弄种族情绪课题。

他指出，砂州议会今日所通过的2022年诠释（修正）法案的主要是为了从联邦政府手中争取回相关自主权，让砂拉越有权力决定谁是原住民。

他表示，在过去，在原住民或非原住民相关事宜都是联邦政府负责，甚至有时候没有得到相关的回应，导致砂拉越原住民孩子受苦。

Average students can now turn to Community Colleges

BAU: Students with average results in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination can rest easy as they have the chance to continue their studies to a higher level while having innovative technical skills at Community Colleges.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said SPM leavers are encouraged to choose Community Colleges to further their studies in high skills.

“This is because these colleges imparts hands-on learning rather than on theory alone to meet the government’s challenge of producing a highly skilled and innovative workforce,” he said during a brief visit to the Educational Opportunity Briefing Programme from Mas Gading Community College (KKMG) in Kampung Haji Baki, on Sunday (Feb 6).

A total of 15 SPM leavers, community leaders from Batu Kitang and parents attended the briefing.

The KKMG will hold a series of similar briefings in other parts of the district to open up opportunities for SPM leavers, especially in rural areas.

Besides that, a talk by the Lifelong Programme Unit (PSH) on several short courses held every weekend for the local community was also delivered to the attendees.

KKMG is a higher learning institution under the Ministry of Higher Education. 

The course programmes offered are Landscape Certificate and Information Technology Certificate with two years of study where the mode of learning is 90 per cent practical (hands-on) and 10 per cent theoretical.

Upon completion of the courses, students will have the opportunity to continue their studies at the diploma level at the polytechnics.

The minimum qualification for entry to KKMG is a pass in SPM.

KUCHING, 5 Feb: Ketua Menteri Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg telah meluluskan projek pemasangan 285 unit lampu jalan solar sepanjang Jalan Bau-Batu Kitang baru-baru ini.

Keputusan ini telah dibuat semasa kunjungan hormat Menteri Muda Pengangkutan II merangkap Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) Tasik Biru Dato Henry Harry Jinep bersama-sama ADUN Batu Kitang Lo Khere Chiang dan ADUN Serembu Miro Simuh ke atas Abang Johari pada 31 Jan 2022.

Henry berkata cadangan projek bagi kerja-kerja penambahbaikan Jalan Bau-Batu Kitang telah dikemukakan oleh ketiga-tiga ADUN tersebut sebelum diluluskan oleh Abang Johari.

“Projek ini akan melibatkan kerja-kerja penambahbaikan jalan serta pemasangan 285 unit lampu solar sepanjang Jalan Bau-Batu Kitang terutamanya di kawasan yang tiada lampu jalan dan di laluan memotong di kedua-dua belah jalan.

“Pemasangan 285 unit lampu solar ini adalah penting memandangkan keadaan sepanjang Jalan Bau-Batu Kitang tersebut kurang memuaskan terutamanya semasa waktu malam.

“Ini adalah kerana ketiadaan lampu jalan di sesetengah lokasi jalan tersebut serta permukaan jalan yang tidak rata dan beralun yang membahayakan pengguna jalan raya itu,” katanya dalam satu kenyataan pada 31 Jan.

Henry turut berkata kadar penggunaan bagi Jalan Bau-Batu Kitang tersebut adalah amat tinggi memandangkan jarak dan masa perjalanan adalah lebih singkat berbanding daripada Jalan Bau-Batu Kawa terutamanya semasa waktu puncak di sebelah pagi dan petang.

“Dengan kelulusan cadangan projek ini, diharapkan pengguna jalan raya dapat menikmati perjalanan yang lebih selesa dan selamat,” ujarnya. — DayakDaily

羅克強：別忽略人心 宗教信仰非常重要

（古晋4日讯）巴达旺市议会主席罗克强强调，社会迅速的发展，改善了人们的生活，虽然社会一般上是追求功利，但也别忽略了人心，宗教信仰给予人们心灵寄托，是非常重要。

他说，石角弥佛村弘扬佛教，在石角的郊区建立美轮美奂的寺院，形成世外桃源般供佛友修行圣地，正是在推动佛教教义上尽力，值得给予赞扬。

亦是巴都吉当候任州议员罗克强于日前（年二十八日）晚间，受邀参与石角弥佛村首度举办春节亮灯仪式致词时说，砂政府正策划将石角发展成著名的旅游区，肯定会为石角发展带来新的面貌。

他表示，这对巴达旺市议会来说，肯定是一件好事，可以增加许多的税收，拥有更多的收入，可以用在地方发展上，所以是很期待的事。

他祝愿石角弥佛村在理事及佛友们通力合作下，能尽快推动大佛像的工程，同沐佛恩，也进一步将弥佛村发展成古晋著名旅游景点之一。

石角弥佛村村长黄松熙指出，该村策划建大佛像，在弘扬佛法上尽些绵力，希望各界给予大力地支持，能使有关工程可尽早展开。

他说，石角弥佛村首度举办春节亮灯仪式，感谢大家的支持来参与；亮灯在春节仪式上，占据重要的一个仪式，代表着光明和希望。

石隆门至峇都吉当路 . 安装285太阳能路灯

（古晋3日讯）砂交通部助理部长拿督亨利吉纳表示，砂首长拿督巴丁宜阿邦佐哈里已批准在石隆门至峇都吉当路，安装285个太阳能路灯。

路崎岖照明足减事故

亨利吉纳是在1月31日（周一）与峇都吉当区候任州议员罗克强及石联埠区候任州议员米罗礼貌拜会砂首长后发文告表示，由于石隆门-峇都吉当路道路崎岖，可能危及道路使用者，尤其是在夜间，因此，安装这285个太阳能路灯是必要的。

他说，该道路交通流量非常高，而且与石隆门-石角路相比，许多道路使用者更喜欢这条道路，以节省距离和行车时间，尤其是在早晚高峰时段。

亨利吉纳表示，一旦路灯安装之后，道路使用者将可以享有更舒适和安全的旅程。

设在昏暗地点超车道

亨利吉纳说，已鉴定在一些较为昏暗地点及超车道上，作为安装太阳能路灯的地点。
