Almost 80 houses of B40 in Batu Kitang repaired — Lo
KUCHING: Nearly 80 houses of needy families in Batu Kitang have been repaired since 2017, says Lo Khere Chiang.
The Batu Kitang assemblyman said the repair works on these houses were funded by the state government.
“So far we have completed repairing almost 80 houses, some are still under construction.
“These houses belong to the B40 group. Their houses really need repair and I am glad to be able to help them with this fund.
“With the maximum of RM15,000 for each house, we are able to help them,” he said after witnessing the handing-over of a house that has been fully repaired at Jalan Chong Foh Hin in Batu Kitang yesterday.
Lo said the house belonged to a daily paid odd job worker, whose wife is not working as she has to look after her 81-year-old mother-in-law and the couple has three children.
He added that the house was in a very rundown state – with the roof leaking, the toilet in a very bad condition and there was no ceiling.
“It was brought to my attention by a penghulu (community leader) of the area.
“So I came to have a look and we decided to use the fund from my RM1 million allocation to repair this house.
“I am grateful that through this RM1 million from the state government we are able to help a lot of people,” he said.
He thanked Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for allocating RM1 million annually to every GPS assemblyman and member of parliament for house repair.
“Apart from this, we have allocation for Rural Transformation Programme (RTP). The fund is allocated to the assemblypersons and MPs to implement projects in their constituencies.
“Where in Malaysia can you find a government like Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) giving allocation to its assemblypersons and MPs?” he said.
Lo said with the allocations they are able to help people in their constituencies and repair 20 to 30 houses every year.https://www.theborneopost.com/2021/01/27/almost-80-houses-of-b40-in-batu-kitang-repaired-lo/
