KUCHING: Nearly 80 houses of needy families in Batu Kitang have been repaired since 2017, says Lo Khere Chiang.

The Batu Kitang assemblyman said the repair works on these houses were funded by the state government.

“So far we have completed repairing almost 80 houses, some are still under construction.

“These houses belong to the B40 group. Their houses really need repair and I am glad to be able to help them with this fund.

“With the maximum of RM15,000 for each house, we are able to help them,” he said after witnessing the handing-over of a house that has been fully repaired at Jalan Chong Foh Hin in Batu Kitang yesterday.

Lo said the house belonged to a daily paid odd job worker, whose wife is not working as she has to look after her 81-year-old mother-in-law and the couple has three children.

He added that the house was in a very rundown state – with the roof leaking, the toilet in a very bad condition and there was no ceiling.

“It was brought to my attention by a penghulu (community leader) of the area.

“So I came to have a look and we decided to use the fund from my RM1 million allocation to repair this house.

“I am grateful that through this RM1 million from the state government we are able to help a lot of people,” he said.

He thanked Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for allocating RM1 million annually to every GPS assemblyman and member of parliament for house repair.

“Apart from this, we have allocation for Rural Transformation Programme (RTP). The fund is allocated to the assemblypersons and MPs to implement projects in their constituencies.

“Where in Malaysia can you find a government like Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) giving allocation to its assemblypersons and MPs?” he said.

Lo said with the allocations they are able to help people in their constituencies and repair 20 to 30 houses every year.https://www.theborneopost.com/2021/01/27/almost-80-houses-of-b40-in-batu-kitang-repaired-lo/

Lo: Be aware of rabies while under the shadow of Covid-19 infections

A screen grab of Lo (top left corner) addressing a press conference for media via Zoom.

By Karen Bong

KUCHING, Jan 27: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has urged the public not to be complacent about rabies in the shadow of Covid-19.

MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang revealed that Sarawak recorded 171 dog bite cases in the period of Dec 27, 2020, to Jan 23 this year.
“Out of the figure, 37 cases occurred under MPP jurisdiction.

“In 2020 alone, Sarawak recorded a cumulative of 16,279 dog bite cases,” he said of the alarming figure as Sarawak is still in the fight against rabies which is one of the most devastating viral diseases affecting mammals, including dogs and humans.

Lo highlighted this in a press conference after the MPP full council meeting via Zoom today.

Sarawak recorded seven rabies fatalities throughout last year. The total cumulative number of rabies cases in Sarawak since the rabies outbreak was declared in the State on July 1, 2017 now stands at 30 cases with 28 fatalities.

There were two cases still alive and both involved children who had received early treatment.

Lo thus reminded the public to not be complacent because rabies is a fatal disease.

“The most frightening part about rabies is that every confirmed rabies case on humans is nearly fatal. So we have to be really careful,” he advised.

With 86 per cent bite cases being from pet dogs, he thus pointed out that rabies vaccination was crucial to prevent the risk of rabies as well as keeping pets indoor to avoid roaming freely with strays.

The areas with positive rabies cases were Kampung Punau, Kampung Quop, Kampung Bumbok, Kampung Semaba, Kampung Sebetong, Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong and Kuching City Mall.

“The council is actively carrying out stray removal activities at the said area,” he added.

On Aedes, Lo reported that MPP areas did not record any dengue cases so far this year but even so, the public should continue to maintain a high standard of cleanliness in their surrounding environment.

“Public cooperation is sought to maintain the cleanliness of the surrounding especially by destroying any potential Aedes breeding ground.

“Indiscriminate dumping should be avoided especially during rainy days and flooding season to prevent stagnant water from accumulation,” he said.

MPP, he continued, had inspected 280 premises including shops, residentials and schools since the beginning of January.

“We have also distributed pamphlets to the public and conducted fogging in locations with high Aedes index after inspections,” he added. -DayakDaily

KUCHING, Jan 27: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has reminded business operators to conduct thorough cleaning and sanitisation of their premises on a daily basis to curb the spread of Covid-19.

MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang emphasised that sanitisation was crucial especially for places identified as having been exposed to Covid-19 as listed by the Ministry for Local Government and Housing.

“It is a good move by SDMC (State Disaster Management Committee) to release the locations of exposure (places visited by positive cases) as this helps to increase the awareness of the general public.

“This may lead to a high number of detection due to self-awareness as people will come forward to get tested when they learn they could have been exposed,” he told a press conference after a full council meeting via Zoom today.

Lo also called on the public to have resolve and improve self-discipline in the fight against Covid-19.

“The battle of Covid-19 is yet to be over as Sarawak has been recording three-digit (number of) cases in recent weeks with the death toll now standing at 33.

“Always remember to wear a face mask, practise physical distancing, wash hands frequently or use hand sanitisers and those with symptoms should seek medical treatment immediately,” he advised.

Everybody, he reiterated, must play their part and comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP) so as to break the chain of infections, flatten the curve and keep Sarawak safe.

“We must be responsible citizens of Sarawak. We are the frontlineers who must protect ourselves, families and communities at large,” he added. — DayakDaily

Be diligent in recording particulars of visitors and customers, Lo tells business owners

Be diligent in recording particulars of visitors and customers, Lo tells business owners

The Zoom session between Lo (top left) and other MPP officers with the press after the full council meeting on Wednesday.

KUCHING (Jan 27): Business operators must be strict when it comes to recording particulars of visitors and customers in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19, said Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang.

He stressed that there were no shortcuts, and urged them to ensure that people comply either by writing down their details or checking in digitally using apps such as MySejahtera.

“I have gotten a few calls from premises operators who said it was difficult to get people to record their particulars, but they must be strict with this. There are no shortcuts in order to make sure Sarawak is safe,” he told a press conference via Zoom video conferencing after a full council meeting today.

Lo reminded that the battle against Covid-19 was not over, and the recent spike in cases statewide was “very alarming” whereby three-digit figures are reported almost daily, with 33 deaths to date.

“It is a good move by SDMC (State Disaster Management Committee) to announce the locations or premises exposed to the positive cases. This initiatives helps to increase awareness among the public.

“Hence this may lead to high number of cases detection due to self-awareness to come forward to get tested after learning that they have encountered or visited the affected locations,” he said.

Lo also advised premises operators to conduct thorough cleaning and sanitation if their places appeared in the list of affected locations.

He said that self-discipline was important to break the chain of infection.

“We must always remind people to wear face masks, practice physical distancing, hand washing and sanitising.

“We are the frontliners to protect ourselves, families and community at large,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lo also reminded that while the topic was on Covid-19, people must not forget dengue and rabies.

He informed that there were zero dengue cases recorded so far this year, but warned against being complacent as the risk still exists.

“So far this year, a total of 280 premises were inspected including shops, residential and schools.

“Preventive activities including fogging are also carried out in locations with high Aedes index after inspection,” he said, while seeking public cooperation to maintain cleanliness of their surroundings and to avoid indiscriminate dumping.

On rabies, Lo informed that in the week between Dec 27 to Jan 2, there were 72 dog bite cases recorded in Kuching with 37 occurring in MPP areas, while in the week between Jan 3 to Jan 23, there were 99 cases in Kuching with none reported in MPP areas.

“Areas with positive rabies case were at Kampung Punau, Kampung Quop, Kampung Bumbok, Kampung Semeba, Kampung Sebetong, Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong and Kuching City Mall.

“The Council has actively carried out stray removal activities at the said areas,” he said.

Lo also informed that it was found that 86 per cent of the bite cases were from pet dogs, which is the reason why all pet dogs should be vaccinated and should be prevented from roaming freely with strays to prevent rabies infection.

In addition, he also updated the press about MPP’s works in addressing the recent flood and erosion incidents in its areas.

“We managed to visit all the affected areas and provided the support needed by the people,” he said.

PRN12 medan pertahankan Sarawak, kata Adun Batu Kitang

PRN12 medan pertahankan Sarawak, kata Adun Batu Kitang

“Jika mereka mahukan sokongan kita (GPS), berikan hak-hak Sarawak.

KUCHING: Another 1,717 units of affordable houses will be built throughout the state this year, says Minister of Local Government and Housing Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He said the work started last year and 1,030 units so far had been built.

He said the ministry, together with Housing Development Corporation (HDC), would build more than 2,500 units, to exceed the target set by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said the chief minister had announced last year that the state government would build 2,500 houses in 2020 and 2021 because the then Pakatan Harapan government did not give them any money to build low cost houses.

“Why we build so many houses is because we believe that houses are very important for every Sarawakian.

“Unlike cars, the prices of houses do not depreciate. That is why we want to help as many Sarawakians as possible to own a house,” Dr Sim told a press conference after handing over ‘offer letters’ to recipients of the affordable housing units at Kampung Bunga Rampai yesterday.

He said 104 successful people would be able to get their letter of offer for houses at Kampung Bunga Rampai in Bau.

Many people with houses, he added, could not borrow money from banks.

“But we have Mutiara Finance, which is 100 per cent owned by the Sarawak government, to lend money to the people so that they can own the houses.

“Mutiara Finance only charges one per cent interest for 40 years. The house owners would only pay between RM200 and RM300 a month” he said.

The houses at Kampung Bunga Rampai are part of the 2,500 units, and the first batch of houses to be ready.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang and HDC chief executive officer Azman Ahmad were also present at the event.
